1. would 和used to都表示過去的習(xí)慣行為，意思為：過去常常。would 表示過去某時(shí)間的意志、愿望和決心。如：
He would come to have a chat with us when he was free. 他有空時(shí)，常會(huì)過來跟我們聊天
He used to live in a cottage near the river. 他過去常住在河邊的一座小木房里。
2. would 往往強(qiáng)調(diào)過去的一種可能性,而不暗示現(xiàn)在的情況;而used to強(qiáng)調(diào)過去常這樣干，而現(xiàn)在不干了, 強(qiáng)調(diào)今惜對(duì)比。如：
He would sit there alone, thinking. 他會(huì)獨(dú)自一人坐在那兒思考。
He used to swim in the river in summer. 夏天他常常在這條河里游泳。
3. would 作will的過去式，表示過去的一種意愿或?qū)⒁龅氖虑�，意思為：將�?huì)。而used to無此意義。如：
People would go to ask him for advice when they came into trouble. 人們碰到麻煩事，就會(huì)去問他解決的辦法。
4. would有時(shí)也可用來指現(xiàn)在，表示一種委婉、客氣的請(qǐng)求，對(duì)于用它來提問題的回答，須用will，不能用would。而used to無此意義及用法。如：
Would you please help me with this case? 請(qǐng)幫助我提一下這個(gè)箱子好嗎?
Yes, I’d like to. / I will. 好，我非常樂意。
5. would一般接表示動(dòng)作的動(dòng)詞，不能與表示狀態(tài)或情感、意識(shí)方面的詞連用，而used to無此限制。如：
He would get here at eight. 他在八點(diǎn)會(huì)到這兒來。
He used to be / get here at eight. 他過去常在八點(diǎn)來這兒。
6. would表示過去某一段時(shí)間常發(fā)生的事，一般要接具體的時(shí)間做狀語，而used to一般不一定要接具體時(shí)間做狀語。如：
I used to go to school by bike. 我過去常騎單車上學(xué)。
I would go to school by bike when I was young. 我年小時(shí)，常騎單車上學(xué)。
7. used to 往往強(qiáng)調(diào)事實(shí)，而 would 常帶有主觀上的感情的色彩。如：
He used to help mother with her housework. 他過去常幫助母親做家務(wù)。
He would help mother with her housework. 他會(huì)幫助幫助母親做家務(wù)。
8. 含used to的句子，變?yōu)榉穸ň浠蛞蓡柧鋾r(shí)，既可在used 后加not，或?qū)?used 提到句首;也可在used to前面加don’t，或在句首加do，同時(shí)將used to改為use to。如：
He used to get up at six. 他過去常在六點(diǎn)起床。
—He usedn’t to get up at six. / He didn’t use to get up at six. 他過去常不在六點(diǎn)起床。
—Used he to get up at six? / Did he use to get up at six? 他過去常在六點(diǎn)起床嗎?
